Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef or ground turkey
  • 6 taco-sized tortillas or flatbreads
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 100 g shredded lettuce
  • 60 g shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 50 g sour cream
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped optional
  • Lime wedges optional
  • Salsa or hot sauce optional

Equipment

  • Heatproof mixing bowl
  • Large skillet or frying pan
  • Cooking spatula
  • Chef's knife
  • Griddle for tortillas

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey with taco seasoning. Ensure the meat is evenly coated.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the seasoned meat. Cook for 8-10 minutes, breaking up the meat as it cooks, until browned and fully cooked.
  3. In the meantime, warm the tortillas or flatbreads on a separate griddle or skillet for about 1-2 minutes per side until pliable.
  4. Once the meat is cooked, remove it from heat and let it rest for about 5 minutes.
  5. Assemble your taco plate by placing a warm tortilla on each plate, followed by a generous scoop of the seasoned meat, diced onions, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and cheese. Top with avocado slices and a dollop of sour cream.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve immediately with lime wedges and your choice of salsa or hot sauce on the side.
