Ingredients

  • 500 g beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 100 g arugula
  • 150 g kale, stems removed and leaves chopped
  • 2 medium bell peppers (red and yellow), thinly sliced
  • 50 ml olive oil
  • 30 ml soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp smoky chili powder
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish) optional
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds (to sprinkle on top) optional

Equipment

  • Grill pan or frying pan
  • Chef's knife
  • Heatproof mixing bowl
  • Large salad bowl
  • Electric mixer (or whisk)

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, olive oil, smoky chili powder, honey, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Add the sliced beef and toss to coat. Allow marinating for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Heat a grill pan or frying pan over high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sear for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  3. In a large salad bowl, combine the arugula, kale, and sliced bell peppers. Toss gently to mix.
  4. Slice the rested beef into strips and place on top of the salad mixture. Drizzle any remaining marinade over the beef and salad.
  5. Finish the salad with fresh mint leaves and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve immediately for the best freshness and flavor.

Notes

For an extra dimension of flavor, feel free to play with the marinating ingredients.
If you prefer chicken or tofu, these proteins work wonderfully as substitutes!
This salad can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but it's best enjoyed fresh.
If you want to reheat the beef, just warm it gently in a pan to avoid drying it out.
