Ingredients

  • 300 g boneless beef chuck
  • 200 g carrots
  • 100 g potatoes
  • 100 g green peas
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 500 ml low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • to taste (optional, keep minimal) Salt
  • a splash for sweetness (if desired) apple juice optional
  • finely chopped (for older toddlers) fresh parsley optional

Equipment

  • Deep fryer or large pot
  • Rubber spatula or wooden spoon
  • Chef's knife
  • Chopping board
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Begin by dicing the beef, carrots, potatoes, and onion, and mince the garlic. Ensure all pieces are small enough for easy chewing.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until softened (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Add the diced beef to the pot and brown it on all sides (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Stir in the diced carrots and potatoes, and cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and add the green peas, thyme, and bay leaf. Bring to a gentle boil.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes until the vegetables and beef are very soft.
  7. Before serving, taste the stew. If desired, add just a pinch of salt but remember to keep it minimal for babies.
  8. Remove from heat, discard the bay leaf, and let cool slightly before serving. You can mash it gently for an even softer texture or leave it in small bites for toddlers.
