Method
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well.
- Add the eggs, warm milk, and honey to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough starts to form.
- Knead the dough using a stand mixer on medium speed for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Gradually add the softened butter to the dough, kneading until fully incorporated, about another 5 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest for 60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces (about 80 g each).
- Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a lined baking tray, leaving space between each roll.
- Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown. They should sound hollow when tapped.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the date caramel. In a small saucepan, combine chopped dates and water. Simmer on a low heat until dates are soft; mash into a smooth consistency using a whisk.
- Once the rolls are baked, let them cool slightly before drizzling the date caramel on top.
- Optionally, garnish with sea salt flakes for a touch of flavor contrast.
