Method
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a frying pan over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion and garlic until softened and translucent.
- Add the ground beef or lamb to the pan, cooking until browned. Stir in the curry powder and turmeric, allowing the spices to bloom for about 2 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, soak the bread in milk until softened, then mash it into a paste.
- Combine the mashed bread with the cooked meat mixture, along with eggs, apricot jam, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Mix until fully integrated.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, smoothing the top.
- Arrange the sliced tomatoes over the top of the bobotie.
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and set.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
