- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, powdered sugar, ground cardamom, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the melted butter, egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough lightly for about 5 minutes until smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes (squares or circles).
- In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Ensure the oil is hot by dropping a small piece of dough; it should sizzle upon contact.
- Fry the pastries in batches, 2-3 at a time, for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove the pastries with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Allow them to cool slightly, then serve topped with fresh mixed berries and a dusting of icing sugar.
