Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 50 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 150 ml whole milk
  • 75 g unsalted butter, melted
  • 100 g chocolate chips
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting optional
  • Whipped cream optional

Equipment

  • Heatproof mixing bowl
  • Electric mixer (or whisk)
  • Deep skillet or heavy pot
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels for draining

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt until combined.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs with milk and melted butter until smooth. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  3. Gently fold in the chocolate chips to the batter.
  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat (about 180°C / 350°F).
  5. Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the fritter batter into the oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  6. Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy these fritters warm!

Notes

Feel free to swap out chocolate chips for dried fruits or nuts for a different flavor profile.
If you find the dough too thick, add a splash more milk to achieve your desired consistency.
These fritters are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
To reheat, simply pop them in the oven for a few minutes! Enjoy the cooking adventure!
