Method
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add warm water and oil, mixing until a smooth dough forms. Cover with cling film and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in another bowl, mix the sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
- Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Roll out the rested dough on a floured surface until very thin, about 1-2 mm thick. Ensure the edges are thinner than the center for an even bake.
- Spread the breadcrumbs evenly over the dough, leaving a border around the edges. This will help absorb moisture from the apples.
- Layer the apple mixture over the breadcrumbs, then carefully roll the dough away from you into a tight log, sealing the ends.
- Place the strudel seam-side down on the baking tray. Brush the top generously with melted butter.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the strudel is golden brown and crispy. Allow to cool slightly.
- Drizzle with honey before slicing into portions. Optionally dust with powdered sugar and serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
